Hands-On Farmhouse Sourdough Workshop
Sourdough bread has become increasingly popular in family homes over the last few years. The art of sourdough dates back thousands of years and has been used for many generations. What may be a hobby for some has become a business opportunity for others and a necessity for those looking for a healthier alternative to bread found on grocery store shelves.
Sourdough can have many great health benefits for those who consume it. It is rich in dietary fiber and prebiotics. Due to the natural fermentation process, sourdough has better nutrient absorption, making it a healthy alternative, especially for those with gluten sensitivity.
The Simplicity of Sourdough
The art of sourdough becomes a simple process with proper instruction and practice. During this course, you will learn how to maintain a healthy starter and how to use and discard it to make various simple recipes. With a well-laid-out plan, you will avoid the overabundance of information you find on the internet regarding sourdough. You will be provided with a great foundation of skills needed to begin your sourdough journey on the right track so that it can become a staple in your kitchen!
In this hands-on workshop, we will cover:
- The process of maintaining a healthy starter, including feeding, storing, and how to use it in recipes
- We will be sampling sourdough goodies.
- Learning the difference between active sourdough starter and sourdough discard
- How to utilize sourdough discard in a recipe
- The hands-on portion of this sourdough workshop will have you participating in making a rustic sourdough boule
- You will leave with a very healthy, active sourdough starter jar to use in your home and a few of my favorite recipes to get you on your journey!
Meet your Instructor
Hello! My name is Lupe Howard. I am a wife and mother of 2 wonderful children. I have been baking sourdough for almost two years here in middle Tennessee. I began baking for fun when I purchased my first starter from a friend.
I then dove into all the online tutorials and started baking. I have since started my cottage bakery from home and provide fresh sourdough baked goods to families in my community. I enjoy trying new recipes and learning different techniques in my home kitchen. I believe that providing your family with foods made with safe and clean ingredients is the key to maintaining good health, and I look forward to sharing this passion with anyone looking for a way to do this as well!
